Herniated Disc
Its often heard that a person suffering from back pain is diagnosed with herniated disc. Its said to be one of the prominent cause of acute or chronic back pain. And with the occupational habit of sitting long hours in wrong postures is said to be one of the major reason for herniated or rupture disc.

What is herniated disc?
Herniated disk is the bulging out of any of the discs of the vertebrates of the spine. The spine has vertebrae joints that have discs inserted, which are also called cushions. There are some reasons behind this cushions slipping out from the joints of vertebrae. Lets have a look at some of the reasons:

1. OLD AGE:
As we start aging, the cushions tend to become rigid and also lose its elasticity. At most cases its found to occur after 50 years, but the developments may start as the person reaches 35 years of age in rare cases. The cushion also shrinks and a gap is formed in the spinal joints. Due to this gap the vertebra bones exert pressure on the discs to come out.
2. Bad Postures of Body:
While sitting or working, if we keep the body postures continuously in wrong positions, the discs get tensed and they suffer from extra pressure which results in slipping out of the cushions.
3. Sudden Lifting:
Sudden lifting of heavy objects or loads may also result in instantaneous slip of the disc. While lifting the objects if more pressure is exerted on the back of the body, the spine cannot control the pressure, consequently it lets out a rupture and the disc slips out slightly.

When the disc or the cushion bulge out, the bundle of spinal nerves are pinched from the extra growth. The injury to the nerves and the muscles attached cause the back pain due to the formation of prostagladins. Hence the herniated disc becomes the cause of severe back pain.
