Scoliosis Pain
The word scoliosis has its origin in the Greek word “skoliosis” meaning crooked. Scoliosis is a condition which is more common among young children and adolescents. It happens because of an abnormal curvature in the spine. This condition is regarded as genetic. It is more frequent among children before puberty and more prevalent among girls. There are various types of scoliosis which have been identified. These are:

* Idiopathic scoliosis
* Congenital scoliosis
* Neuromuscular scoliosis
* Degenerative scoliosis

If not treated in childhood, it can progress to adulthood and cause lifelong bending of the spine. Usually, scoliosis surgery is carried out when it has been found that the spine is taking a curvature of more than 30 to 40 degrees. Scoliosis pain is very severe and is often proportional to the degree of curvature of the spine. This measurement of curvature is done with the help of an instrument called Cobb Angle. In severe cases of scoliosis pain, the patient may even get partial or complete paralysis. In some cases, the patient may experience severe pain in the region of the ribs. Sometimes due to increased pain, there is swelling of the shoulders and herniation. The patient might develop inclined posterior. Mild cases of scoliosis can be treated by using special scoliosis braces. In serious cases, we need surgery. Surgery is the perhaps the safest and an effective treatment. Scoliosis when detected early, can be treated efficiently.
