Lower Back Pain Diagnosis

Lower back pain is diagnosed in order to know the cause of its occurrence. Thus, it is required when the problem persists for long duration and is complicated. Generally, the case is diagnosed by a general physician or any specialist. A thorough knowledge of the history of that ailment in the family, the features of it, duration of the pain, region of the pain to which first aid does not responds well, limitation in the movement, swelling, or restriction of any limb of the body are assessed. This is done to search for the root cause of the problem.

The diagnosis gets specific when a certain broad reason is known. This happens mostly in the case of an injury which precedes lower back pain. Chronic back pain is a common complaint of all athletes and in 10% of all sports-related ailments. This becomes easier as the diagnosis focuses on the region of pain.

Then, the diagnosis involves using diagnostic tools such x-ray, MRI, computer imaging, and injecting a certain medicinal dye to get a clear outline of the nature of injury. It could be a hairline fracture or a ligament tear.

Diagnosis through MRI or computer imaging is a painless procedure through which minute complications are identified such as an infection, a tumor at the tissue, wearing out of a disc plate, or a dislocation. All these are studied along with the symptoms of the patient’s ailment, other pathological examinations of blood, and if necessary neurological tests.

However, one should not be scared that once diagnosed of this problem they have suffer all these procedures. These procedures and diagnostic solutions are used for specific cases of lower back pain and therefore, done only when an earlier examination requires them to do so.
