prescription but it is advisable to consume it on doctors prescription. Over the counter medication sometimes proves dangerous.

These medications include NSAIDs, anti inflammatory drugs. NSAID such as diflunisal (Dolobid) or meclofenamate greatly helps in treating back pain. Other prescribed medicines are celecoxib (Celebrex) and valdecoxib (Bextra), from the drug group called cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors. These drugs are confirmed to treat pain and inflammation as effectively as NSAIDs but cause some gastrointestinal side effects.

Studies have shown that muscle relaxants are an effective treatment for acute low back pain; the usefulness of muscle relaxants for chronic low back pain requires further study. Muscle relaxants work by depressing the function of neuron in spinal cord and brain. A combination of a muscle relaxant and an NSAID could also be given. Muscles relaxants are quite beneficial but their excessive use is not suggested.

Narcotic addictive medicines such as codeine, morphene and meperidine could be consumed with great care for back pain remedy. Regulated release formulations of oxycodone and morphine are required by patients with chronic pain. But, back pain medication must be supplemented by back pain exercises. Relieving back pain through medication must not result in complications.
