Common types of scoliosis are first discovered and
treated in childhood or adolescence. Scoliosis occurring in teenagers is
generally treated with braces, or in severe cases, surgery at the end of
the teenager's growth spurt. Generally, the only cases where surgery is
considered are severe cases that lead to continual physical pain,
difficulty in breathing and significant disfigurement. For more
information on the treatments available, read Treatments
Available For Back Pain.
Though in general, little scientific evidence exists about the effectiveness of lower back
pain exercises for preventing progression of scoliosis curves, exercises
for lower back pain are in fact, very helpful in relieving back pain and
scoliosis. Some simple exercise for scoliosis are as follows-
1) Chair seated twist with torso support- It gently helps to stretch out
the concave side of the torso.
2) Passive back arch helps thoracic outlet syndrome.
3) One leg up, one leg out- Leg on the concave side of the body is more cramped than the other side and this exercise helps
to gently stretch it out.
4) One elbow up, one elbow down- Helps to make shoulders even. You can do this once more with lower, weak shoulder
side upwards to strengthen it. This exercise really helps lower left back pain.
Children and adolescents with scoliosis can be
expected to participate in organized sports, physical education
programs, and normal neighborhood recreational activities. Simple
exercise for scoliosis and back pain exercises as a back pain therapy
help build muscle strength and endurance training assists in improving
cardiovascular conditioning. Low back pain treatment and scoliosis
treatment are nearly identical.
