Understanding Your Pain

Every person experiences back pain at some point in his/her lifetime. Back pain is the second most common cause of missed workdays due to illness and it is the most common cause of disability. Most of the times, back pain goes away itself over the time but in some cases it may sustain to lead to some complicated conditions. So, it is important to understand the type and nature of your pain. Pain is like a message sent along the nerves to tell the brain that something is damaging the body. Then your brain sends message to the muscles or organs to take action, for eg- it tells your hand to get away from whats burning it.

Thus, it is essential to know every aspect of your back pain including the reason for it, whether it is being accompanied by a burning or throbbing sensation, which part is exactly being affected by it and more such information for correct diagnosis. You also need to have an understanding of its types, causes, and symptoms. If you are suffering from acute pain, it can be cured by using certain home remedies over it. But, if your pain persists for more than 12 weeks than you are surely suffering from severe chronic back pain.

This chronic pain is really a dangerous one, if not diagnosed and treated properly and timely can result in disability and even death. Treatment of chronic pain is different from that of acute one as chronic pain does not respond to treatments like over-the-counter painkillers and physiotherapy alone, instead one has to consult the doctor or physician for its treatment.

Your back pain may be caused due to strained muscles, injured bones, ligaments and joints. But, these causes should be identified by your doctor through various diagnostic tests using various mediums like X-rays, MRI and CT scans.

The next important thing is that you should be aware about proper body posture for preventing back pain as poor posture like sitting in an awkward position or standing for prolonged time may result in extreme pain. It is very important for you to know about your pain in detail so that you are able to explain your problem correctly to your doctor.
