Home Treatment For Sciatica
Among all nerves in the body, the sciatica nerve is the longest nerve in the body. It originates in the lumbar spinal cord and keeps descending down to the knees and feet. Any kind of irritation in the sciatica nerve can cause severe pain. The pain starts in the lower back or buttocks and slips down to the knees and eventually to the feet. Herniation of the discs is another compelling cause of sciatica. An x-ray, MRI or a CT scan can further confirm the status of the severity of the condition. However, some self-preventive measures like a little rest and avoiding certain activities that aggravate the condition have proven very helpful.

Usually, as a course of first aid and preventive measure, sciatica home treatments have proven to be effective. One of the most easily available sciatica treatments are ice or hot packs, which are used according to the condition. Ice-packs have been found to be effective in getting rid of the swelling caused due to the pinching of the sciatica nerve. If after 48 hours of the pain, these two remedies cannot relieve you of the pain, then the problem is considered a bit more serious.

The OTC medications are divided into two basic types. One, which relieves the pain and inflammation and secondly, those which only cure the pain. Non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) like aspirin and ibuprofen are considered safe to use in the sense that they perform both these functions. But, when taken excessively they have side effects like ulcers, bleeding of the stomach and nausea. Other sciatica home remedies include, a bit of stretching exercises which can strengthen and relieve pressure from the affected area.
