Treatment For Sciatica
Sciatica is a pain which takes its origin in the lower part of our body like the buttocks and spreads to the knees and the foot. The pain generally ranges from a tingling feeling or numbness to unbearable pain. Sciatica is basically a nerve, the longest nerve in our body which is about the size of a little finger. Sciatica is a pain that is curable and the damage to the nerve can be limited. The first step towards treatment is not to prolong the rest but to continue with your daily activities, along with regular exercise and medical treatment. The first sciatica treatment that you can try is cold ice packs wrapped in a towel. Applying it for 15 to 20 minutes on the affected area two to three times a day, alleviates the pain. This can be alternated with warm packs on the affected area.

Some stretching exercises combined with aerobics can help you. Take caution not to jerk or twist anything. The advice of a good physical trainer can be of great assistance. You can try some over-the-counter medicines for relieving sciatica pain. The usual medications include aspirin, tylenol, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen. But these drugs have a number of side effects like dizziness, and stomach problems. Sometimes, doctors give prescription drugs that act like painkillers or produce endorphins that block the passage of pain to the brain. In severe cases of sciatica, steroids are prescribed and surgery could be conducted.
