Scoliosis is not a disease nor is it caused
by a deficiency of strength or flexibility. All spines have curve.
Humans need these spinal curves to help the upper body maintain proper
balance and alignment over the pelvis. However, scoliosis occurs when
there are abnormal side-to-side (lateral) curves in the spinal column
leading to lower left back pain as well.
Scoliosis affected children can be expected to participate in organized
sports, school physical education programs, and normal neighborhood
recreational activities. For most, scoliosis and back pain exercises are
aimed at building muscle strength and endurance training to improve
cardiovascular conditioning as a back pain support. Two exercises for
back pain and some exercises to help treat scoliosis are as follows:
1.
Leg & Arm Extensions
Start with your hips right over the
stability ball. With one toe down, extend your left hand up, keeping
your right fingertip palm down, while lifting your right leg up. Hold
for a count of three and then switch sides.
2. Back Extension
It
is also useful in back pain treatment. Start with your stomach on top of
the ball and your knees on the mat. You will want to fall forward over
the ball in a relaxed position. Your hands and arms should be raised and
come straight out so that they are also parallel to the ball. Hold this
position for a count of 5. It is an effective back pain remedy.
Scoliosis
is not a result of exercise, and therefore normal physical activities
can be enjoyed by people with scoliosis without concern. Several
exercises to manage scoliosis can be performed at home. For back and leg
pain and as back pain therapy, the lower back pain exercises can be
effectively used for scoliosis treatment.
