Ligaments attach one bone to another. Sprains of ligament, muscle strain, or a slipped disk could be the reasons for lower back pain. Or, when you are trying to do an activity, which in fact you are not capable of doing, say, lifting heavy objects and doing extra hard work on a particular day- all this could be the reason for your lower back pain.

Many a time, the unbearable pain in the lower back comes out to be slip disk. But what exactly is this slipped disk? When your bone under pressure, leans on nerves, it is known as slipped disk.

Your immediate reaction to slip-disk is rest. Take rest in proper place, after getting the oil massage done in an appropriate manner. Oil massage for the slip disk is a specialized job and it needs to be done by a trained hand.

Now let’s discuss the merits of some unfailing 'doctors.' Heating the hurt area by rubber pad helps to relax painful muscle spasms. Keep it on the affected part for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Ice packs also give you lots of relief.

When pain is unbearable, take some of the over the counter medicines with the full understanding that, they are meant to be just stopgap arrangements.

Watch your pain carefully. Its movement needs to be monitored. If it goes below your knee and your leg, foot, groin or rectal area feel the numbness, if you have fever, nausea or vomiting, you need to consult the doctor immediately. Increasing weakness, sweating and loss of control over going to the bathroom are not good indications as well. If your pain is caused by an injury, whether it is normal or severe, and it does not seem to get better, even after the lapse of 15-20 days, do rush to the doctor. Don't relax on imaginings and conjectures. Try to know the exact nature of your pain, by talking it over with your doctor.

Develop certain positive trends as far as your physic is concerned. Sit erect. Don't sit like a lump, as if you have just lost a heavyweight bout. Stand like a soldier, not like a creeper. Don't sleep like a log of wood.

This may mean losing weight (because being overweight can make back pain worse), Get your muscles in better shape, and improve your postures when you are sitting, standing and sleeping.

As for the preventing measures follow the golden rule: Exercise regularly by understanding your exercises. Wear flat shoes to keep the proper body balance.
