Herniated Disc Recovery And Exercise: A Proven Cure

Herniated disc is the consequence of a trauma or accident in your spine. A herniated disc can occur any where. Don't confuse it with bulging disc. Bulging disc is a condition mostly related to the lumbar or lower spine of your back. It is different from herniated disc which occurs mostly due to an injury or trauma.

When the disc or cushion is displaced from the original position due to injury, the bundle of spinal nerves is pinched from this extra growth. The injury to the nerves and the muscles attached produce prostaglandins. And these prostaglandins become the cause of severe back pain.

The bulging disc is totally a condition of old age problem. In herniated disc the decompression of the joints take place quite quickly and cause the disc to slip out, while in bulging disc slow decompression takes place and the disc bulges out.

In herniated disc a person suffers from unbearable pain and swelling. He moans in pain and cannot move his body. Therefore for treatment, medications are given on the one hand to relieve the pain in the herniated disc and exercise on the other hand is recommended for healing the wound and increasing your muscle and spinal bone strength.

Thus exercising makes a crucial part of herniated disc treatment. Some exercises meant for repairing herniated disc are:

1. Stand straight against any clean wall with the support and pressure of your back. Slowly come to a 90 degree crouching position. Stay there till you count 8-10 normally and then resume the original position slowly. This exercise increases the tensile strength of the muscles of the back and the thighs and decreases the spasms.

2. Lie on the floor with your back and remain in a relaxed position. Slowly raise one of your legs upward and keep it as straight as possible. Count up to fifteen, and slowly bring down the leg. Do the same with the other leg. Repeat this exercise five times.

These exercises correct your deformed discs and help in complete recovery.
