Hypertension has
become a major cause of concern for doctors, the world over. In fact,
it is responsible for the increase in rate of mortality and has
contributed to the decline of the health in many nations. In fact,
the presence of hypertension between the people of age group of 60-69
years has been found to be about 50%. This grows in number and size
as we approach and study the age group of 75 yrs and above. There it
shows an increase of about 75%. However, what is scaring for doctors
nowadays is the increase in hypertension amongst children. They find
it hard to believe that children are exposed to this deadly disease,
which may prove to be futile in the long-run.
But, then you have a
host of medicines and drugs available today to combat the
hypertension malice. You could take your pick from
a) Nicardipine: a dosage suggested of
about 1-3mcg/kg/min IV infusion.
b) Labetalol: A dosage of anything
between 0.2-1 mg/kg/min IV infusion and 40 mg of the same dosage.
c) Sodium Nitroprusside: 0.53-10
mcg/kg/min IV infusion will be the dosage.
The above drugs are exclusively meant
for starters. You may have to grade one notch up, if the above
medications aren’t working. Care to note that Sublingual Nifedipine
is no longer in production because it is reported that it causes
hypotension deaths in the adult population. The above is not to be
taken without prescription, if the patient is between 1-17 years of
age that is basically, a child and can only be prescribed to the
above medicines by a certified doctor. Even if the case is for
neonatal doses, the re-commendation has to be taken from a doctor.

the dosage and the list of medicines.
