Herniated disc cervical is one of the major causes of
presently prevailing back pain among a major chunk of population.
Although, most of the sufferers of herniated disc cervical are of the
age of forty fifty, in some it may develop earlier. It may result in
pain in upper back, neck and arm. Herniated disc compresses cervical
nerve, giving way to a pain radiation along the nerve pathway down the
arm and towards the neck. Upper back muscle pain may also be present due
to a cervical herniated disc.To know more about herniated disc, read herniated
disc cervical back pain.
Two common levels in the cervical spine to herniated disc are C5-C6 level (cervical 5 and
cervical 6) and the C6-C7 level. The next most common level is the C4-C5
level, and rarely the C7-T1 level may herniate. The nerve that suffers
because of cervical disc herniation is the one existing near the spine
at that level, so at the C5-C6 level it is the C6 nerve root that gets
compressed because of
herniation.
C6-C7 (C7 nerve root) compression
results in pain in the muscles of the back of the upper arm and extends
to the forearm. In most of the patients, it has been observed that C6-C7
nerve root mostly gets affected.
The space available for nerves is already narrow in the canal that means that even a little cervical
disc bulging may exert pressure on the nerve and cause significant pain.
Back pain medication and surgery are two permanent ways of relieving
back pain of this type. More often, its surgery that cures it. Some
alternative back pain therapy could also be adopted such as water
therapy, for temporary relief. In extreme cases chronic back pain
support could also be sought. Exercises for back pain are a good
remedial alternative. Temporary relief from back neck pain may also be
obtained from massaging.
