Upper Back Pain Causes, many devices to combat!
Upper back pain is usually caused by self inflicted problems or bad habits such as sedentary lifestyles with little or no exercise and overexertion of the body. Sitting posture can also become a cause for upper back pain which is usually triggered off by sitting incorrectly either at your desk or at the steering wheel. At times picking up things which are heavy in may also be a upper back pain inducer. Mostly there are no apparent reasons for back pain, yet it persists. While some effects are immediate, this specific condition develops over a longer period of time. The most usual type of back pain is caused by strained muscles surrounding the spine. In cases of muscle weakness of a nonspecific variety, one might find it troublesome to walk, bend or stretch. Psychological triggers have also been identified as upper back pain such as stress, lack of sleep, or general tension. Fibrositis, is such a condition caused by muscle tension and generally results in chronic back ache. Pregnancy has also been known to cause back ache as the different stages of pregnancy such as fetus development, weight and hormonal changes which put a lot of stress on a woman's spinal chord and legs. Injuries due to sports, fall, etc can lead to damage whether minor or severe to the spinal column or even the spinal chord itself. Sometimes upper back pain is accompanied by neck and shoulder pain as well. Two of the most common conditions include:

Muscular irritation: the shoulder girdle is attached to the scapula and the back of the thoracic rib cage through some big muscles. These muscles are very prone to developing some form of irritation which is very painful. Muscular irritation may be due to lack of strength in the muscles or overuse injuries which is usually a result of repetitive motions. Muscle strains, sports and auto accidents and injuries can also result in muscular irritation.  Since most of the upper back pain is related to the shoulder muscles, there is a lot of stretching and strengthening exercises used to cure it. It is also highly advisable to approach a specialist who may devise other solutions such as psychiatry, rehabilitation, osteopathy and chiropractors.

* Joint dysfunction causing upper back pain: The ribs are connected to the vertebrae in the spine with two joints which connect to either side of the spine. Any form of dysfunction in these joints can trigger off back pain. Manual manipulation is usually required to treat this particular ailment. Aerobics and exercise are of the most essential in order to combat this condition from recurring.

There are other causes as well for upper back pain, though not as common as the above two and include disc herniations, spinal stenosis, instability or degenerative disc disease which constitute about 1% of problems that are normally common to the spinal chord. However, it's always a good idea to get it diagnosed at an early stage and practice prevention measures to stop it from further damaging.
