|
The main aim of chiropractic treatment is to
re-establish normal spine mobility, thus alleviating the irritation to
the spinal nerve and re-establishing altered reflexes. The need for a
chiropractor is felt in case of accidents, tension, over-exertion,
inability of the spine to compensate, resulting in minor displacement of
one or more vertebrae causing irritation to spinal nerve roots.
The chiropractors use a standard procedure of examination in
order to diagnose the patient's condition to arrive at a suitable
treatment. For this they use many methods like consultation, physical
examination, case history, laboratory analysis and X-ray studies.
Chiropractors usually adopt a concept of classifying low back injuries
in to one of the following three categories:
Extremely serious: Infection, fracture, tumor or other major
complications
Sciatica: Compression of the nerve root
Non-specific: This includes mechanical low back pain
Chiropractic care combined with cardiovascular and strengthening
exercises plays a significant role in managing low back pain problems.
The chiropractor provides specific instructions about the proper
exercise for the patient's condition before beginning any exercise
program. Exercises combined with chiropractic care promote proper
digestion, keep the muscles in proper tone and promote better
circulation.
Chiropractic care
aims to provide the appropriate exercise for different patients like:
If the patients feels good while bending over then the exercises
promoting low back flexion like posterior pelvic tilts, bending
forward from a sitting position are really helpful for him.
If the patient does not notice any diminishing of the pain in the leg
then prone press-up type exercises are usually the best to perform.
Other exercises like stretching of hamstrings,
strengthening of pelvic stabilizing muscles, and proprioceptive balance
promoting exercises also help a lot in treating back pain. Apart from
this the chiropractors also use some of the physiological therapeutic
measures like heat, cold, massage, water and light, additionally. They
also use some of their techniques like flexion distraction technique and
pelvic blocking technique as these techniques help in treating
symptomatic disc injuries involving the back pain.
